Empilweni means "Place of Healing"

Empilweni is a community-based Mental Health Project situated in Khayelitsha, near Cape Town (South Africa) and provides essential care for its clients through a comprehensive range of programmes.

The project was initiated in 1994 through the University of Cape Town’s Department of Mental Health and Psychiatry and has been functioning as an independent Community Based Organisation (CBO) since January 2003.

Empilweni is the only project in Khayelitsha
with specialised services for children.

Urgent Update: Without new funding, Empilweni faces severe financial stress and, the essential services our counsellors provide to the Khayelitsha community will be lost.
